Brain Train Volume 3
Brain Train Volume 3 programs are designed to remediate cognitive and behavioral deficits commonly associated with brain injury or other acquired neurological injuries or illnesses. The programs provided in the Brain Train software have been used across a variety of settings, including as part of a comprehensive day treatment program, to supplement home programs, to prepare for return to employment, and to provide sufficient cognitive stimulation to retain current skill or functional levels. The programs have also been successfully used with client populations that included those who are mentally ill, developmentally disabled, learning disabled, attention deficit disordered, autistic, and aphasic.
The software includes 88 separate tasks that may be used by the clients. Goals addressed by the software include auditory perception, academic skills, attention/concentration, new learning, visual memory/recall, verbal memory/recall, visual perception, visual-spacial analysis, visual organization, visual scanning/tracking, neglect, spatial orientation, eye-hand coordination, motor control/speed, abstraction/reasoning, planning, processing/thinking speed, impulse control and vocational skills. Specific goals and purpose can be set and discussed with each client. Each client is allowed to work at his or her own pace.
The clients have indicated a variety of reasons they enjoy participating in the computer centered cognitive tasks and they include: the wide variety of activities and skill levels, the computer does not mind practicing the same task over and over until it is mastered, provides activities important to daily living (letter writing, note taking, scheduling, vocational), and being allowed to work at their own pace with comparison scores allow the patients to see progress and thus improve overall self-esteem and motivation to continue. The Brain Train software has been a success with both the clients and staff here at TBCI.
